Jim McCeney is remembered for his commitment to our community, to Laurel's history, and to making Laurel a better place. He holds a special place for the Laurel Historical Society, where he served as President, Treasurer, and Chairman of the Board.
MCCENEY MARCH GOES VIRTUAL!
This Fall the 5th annual "McCeney March" is going virtual! We want to thank you for participating, sponsoring, or both over the last four years. We invite you to join us this year by walking 1 mile or a 5K at a time of your choosing between September 29th and October 3rd.
The Laurel Historical Society wants to continue the McCeney March tradition, but we know this year must be different due to the Coronavirus. We would like to share some of this year’s changes.
1. It is clear that some of our generous past sponsors have been challenged this year, so we are not seeking sponsorships. Instead, we are encouraging you to patronize our past sponsors and Main Street businesses. Our past McCeney March sponsors are listed below and will be on our McCeney March Route map. We are accepting donations to support the 2020 McCeney March.
2. Another change this year is that proceeds from the march will support teacher educational projects at the museum. This will help raise the level of educational programming we can provide for students of every age.
REGISTRATION:
To register for the walk this year please visit: McCeney March Registration Form. Each participant who registers by September 6th will receive a mask this year instead of a shirt. This will allow you to wear your mask as you walk at a time of your choosing between September 29th (Jim’s birthday) and October 3rd. Registration Fees: $10/child, $25/adult, $60/family of 4.
Jim McCeney walked 3 miles a day for many years and we encourage you to honor his memory by walking through historic Laurel, walking to a business on Main Street, walking in your neighborhood, or even on a treadmill. Don’t forget to document your walk with pictures and share them on social media. Be sure to tag the Laurel Historical Society (@LaurelHistory) and use #McCeneyMarch2020. We hope you are able to join us this year and want to thank you again for your support over the last four years.
If you would prefer not to register as a “Walker” but would like to donate to the McCeney March click here. If you see “instructions to seller” please indicate McCeney March.
